Big Umbrella gets bigger and opens in the Midlands - Press Release issued November 22, 2005

Regional independent production company Big Umbrella Media is building on its recent successes by expanding and re-locating into a new HQ in the Midlands near to Birmingham Airport for the development and production of its broadcast television and radio programmes. We are also announcing two new senior appointments.

Big Umbrella’s new Head of Broadcast Development is Claire Campbell who has worked in television and radio for over 15 years. From the BBC’s Good Morning with Anne and Nick, The Clothes Show and DIY SOS, to Channel 4’s Pet Rescue and Home from Home and ITV’s First Dance, Claire’s credits demonstrate a broad background in both peak and daytime shows for many of the UK's broadcasters.

Our new Head of Production Sarah Greene is a hugely experienced production manager, corporate and animation producer. She joins the senior team to give added depth to programme budgeting and management having worked for many of the UK’s leading independents over the last 15 years. Her career to date has encompassed productions from perennial favourites such as Gardeners’ World for the BBC via live studio for Channel 4 through to children’s CGI animation shows for the ITV Network.

They both join Company co-founder and Executive Producer Susan McDermott whose credits include ITV’s This Morning and The Good Sex Guide and the BBC’s City Hospital, Barking Mad and Bargain Hunt.

Managing Director Martin Head welcomed the new appointments.
“Big Umbrella Media is very fortunate that such talented and experienced people have joined our core team. We are very excited about establishing ourselves in the Midlands and look forward to working with lots more regional talent in the near future.”

The expansion of this regional Indy has been secured with an investment from the Advantage Creative Fund.
“The investment from the Advantage Creative Fund has taken a lot of hard work to secure. Showing their faith in the Company is well timed, as after three good years we were ready for an expansion. This funding has given us the means to move forward at just the right time”, said Martin Head.

The £5 million Advantage Creative Fund is a region-wide venture capital investment fund set up in 2003 specifically to help to grow creative businesses in the West Midlands. Funding was provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Advantage West Midlands and Arts Council, England.
